1、壓縮天然氣（Compressed Natural Gas,簡稱CNG）指壓縮到壓力大于或等于10MPa且不大于25MPa的氣态天然氣，是天然氣加壓并以氣态儲存在容器中。
2、壓縮天然氣與管道天然氣的組分相同,主要成分為甲烷（CH4）。CNG可作為車輛燃料使用。LNG（Liquefied Natural Gas）可以用來制作CNG，這種以CNG為燃料的車輛叫做NGV（Natural Gas Vehicle）。液化石油氣（Liquefied Petroleum Gas,簡稱LPG）經常容易與LNG混淆，其實它們有明顯區别。LPG的主要組分是丙烷（超過95%），還有少量的丁烷，LPG在适當的壓力下以液态儲存在儲罐容器中，被用作民用燃料和車輛燃料。
