1、公元前209年，我國曆史上爆發了陳勝吳廣領導的農民起義。陳勝吳廣犧牲後，劉邦和項羽率領的兩支軍隊逐漸壯大起來。公元前207年，項羽的起義軍與秦将章邯率領的秦軍主力部隊在巨鹿（今河北邢台市）展開大戰；項羽不畏強敵，引兵渡漳水。
2、渡河後，項羽命令全軍：“皆沉船，破釜甑，燒廬舍，持三日糧，以示士卒必死，無一還心。”巨鹿一戰，大破秦軍，項兵威震諸侯。
