下雨天好多飛蟲是大水蟻，每年4-6月，有翅繁殖蟻進行分群繁殖，正常分飛5-10次，多在悶熱或大雨前後的傍晚飛出巢，經短期飛翔、脫翅、配對，然後在适當的地方入土築新巢。
大水蟻可危害杉木、水杉、刺槐、泡桐、闆栗等多種樹木，房屋及家具，白蟻營巢于土中，取食樹木的根莖部，并在樹木上修築泥被，啃食樹皮。
