世界上最大的鲨魚是鲸鲨，身體龐大，通常體長9-12米，最長可達20米，也是世界上最大的魚類。鲸鲨是鲸鲨科鲸鲨屬的鲨魚，僅1科1屬1種，主要分布在熱帶和溫帶海區。
鲸鲨喜歡單獨活動，雖然擁有巨大的身軀，但是性情溫和，會與潛水員嬉水玩鬧，不會對人類造成危害。
由于被大量捕殺，數量銳減，鲸鲨已經成為了珍稀動物，已被我國列為國家二級保護動物。
